Lake Okareka

For anyone not in the know, Lake Okareka has to be one of the prettiest spots in Aotearoa. It's between Rotorua and Blue Lake, New Zealand, a peaceful little village with no shops and few houses dotting the shore.

Walking around the lake track in the early morning mist felt otherworldly. Alone, obscured from the sight and reach of others.

Mist is mythical, otherwordly, an often used trope.  It's also intoxciating.

An envelope we can walk into and hide, explore, find a sense of safety found in a womb.

One could easily slip into the water of the lake and disappear from view.

These photos are an exploration of a state of mind many of us experience in the modern world.

What do we do?
